National recording artist Bryson Bernard aka Cupid discovered his passion for music in church where his father served as a pastor, singing in choir and learning piano at the age of 15. A lot has happened since then!
The singer first enjoyed radio airplay in 2001 with his high-energy first single, “Do Ya Thang”, which appeared on his self-pressed, debut album. His second self-released album, 2005’s The King of Down South R&B gained airplay throughout the region, from Florida to Texas. Cupid’s career rocketed in January 2007, with the release of his third album, Time For a Change. Mere days before putting the CD out, he got the call inviting him to sign with Atlantic Records. His breakthrough first single from that album, “Cupid Shuffle”, sparked a nationwide sensation. In the United States, the song peaked at #66 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #21 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Since then the song has gone double platinum and gets roughly 6,500 new downloads each week.
In 2008 Cupid broke the Guinness World Record for the largest line dance assembled with over 17,000 people in Atlanta, GA at Ebony’s Black Family Reunion Tour.
Calls immediately began coming in for Cupid requesting him to perform at various events including Steve Harvey Morning Show and Tom Joyner Morning Show events. The calls didn’t stop there. In 2009 Cupid was asked by Disney to perform at their annual Disney Dreamers Academy in Orlando Florida. Soon after McDonalds took notice and asked Cupid to be the face of their new McDonald’s McCafe campaign and the commercial was released shortly after.
Cupid’s music is a mixture of high energy, soulful songs that will make an empty dance floor full in a matter of seconds and can slow the mood down and take you to a romantic place. This combination has allowed him to go from touring with legends like The Manhattens, Lenny Williams to high energy dance parties.
Since his hit song “Cupid Shuffle”, Cupid has continued to keep the dance floors rocking with charting songs like “Say Yes”, “Happy Dance”, “The Love Slide” and “Do My Ladies Run This Party” which was featured on BET’s 106 & Park.
After 3 years of heavy touring Cupid got back in the studio and released two projects: “21 &Up” mixtape and the free online album release of “Who Shot You”. Success from these two projects sparked a sequel to the “Cupid Shuffle”. “CU-STEP” aka the Cupid Shuffle part 2 that has spread virally all over the world. You can see thousands of people doing this new dance on iTunes and Youtube. After releasing this song, Cupid was featured on BET’s The Mo’Nique Show and nationally syndicated Daytime to perform “CU-STEP.”
Watching his performances on the Mo’Nique Show and Daytime brought Cupid to the realization that he’d ballooned in weight by not exercising regularly or eating properly. Embarking on a journey to regain his health, Cupid developed a routine that was fun & effective at the same time. After losing over 40 lbs. Cupid decided to share his weight loss program with the world & CuRobiks Fitness was born.
